HANDLEY PAGE HERALD (United Kingdom) A branch route airliner designed to replace the DC-3. Heralds can carry up to 56 passengers, will fly some of BEA's Scottish island services and also operate the main routes of Jersey Airlines. The Herald can operate from small rough aerodromes in mountainous areas and in high temperatures, as has been proved by nearly 200,000 miles of demonstration flying in South America, Asia and Australia. Powered by two 2,100 h.p. Rolls-Royce Dart propeller-turbines, the Herald cruises at 275 m.p.h. and has a range of 750 miles with full payload. Maximum weight is 40,000 lb. The span is 94 ft. 9 in.
