The Type Ta Hendon was a modified version of the Type T Hanley and was produced to meet Specification 25/23 for a two-seat torpedo and bomb-carrying machine. Still employing a Napier Lion, albeit a Mk II of 470 hp, the structure of the Hendon was almost identical to that of the earlier design but with the addition of a greater sweepback angle to the main-planes, which moved the centre of pressure aft, to balance the added weight of the observer who sat immediately behind the pilot, with a defensive armament of one Lewis gun on a Scarff-ring. Trailing-edge slotted flaps were now fitted and connected to the inner slats which were now movable. The slotted ailerons were also connected to the outboard slats. Although serials N9724 to N9729 were allocated, N9727 may have been the first machine to fly, on 7th July 1924, and as no production order was forthcoming the other five machines may not have been built. Like the Hanley the torpedo was carried on a crutch between the undercarriage legs, the alternative bomb load being carried under the inner wing interplane struts.
